Local Dispatcher - Fort Lauderdale Warehouse

Responsibilities:

A local dispatcher for a moving company plays a crucial role in the coordination and management of the moving processes. Here are some general responsibilities associated with this position:

  1. Scheduling and Dispatching:
    1. Organize and manage the daily schedules for movers and drivers.
    2. Dispatch teams to various locations according to customer bookings and business needs.
    3. Adjust schedules as needed based on unexpected changes or last-minute customer requests.
  2. Communication:
    1. Serve as the primary point of contact for moving teams while they are on the road.
    2. Communicate with customers to update them about the status of their move, address any concerns, and provide estimated arrival times.
    3. Relay information between office staff, moving crews, and customers to ensure smooth operations.
  3. Route Planning:
    1. Optimize route efficiency for moving crews to reduce travel time and fuel consumption.
    2. Take into account traffic patterns, road constructions, and other logistical challenges when planning routes.
  4. Resource Management:
    1. Manage the allocation of trucks, equipment, and personnel to maximize efficiency.
    2. Ensure that moving teams are equipped with the necessary tools and materials for each job.
  5. Problem Solving:
    1. Address and resolve issues that arise during the moving process, such as delays, accidents, or customer complaints.Make quick decisions to reallocate resources or adjust plans as necessary to meet service standards.
    2. Record Keeping & General Maintenance
    3. Maintain accurate records and crew movements.
    4. Monitor and report on key performance indicators like on-time arrivals, job duration, and customer satisfaction.
    5. Schedule Local Service calls as needed
  6. Compliance and Safety:
    1. Ensure that all operations comply with local, state, and federal transportation laws and regulations.
    2. Promote safe work practices among crew members and enforce safety standards.
  7. Team Coordination:
    1. Coordinate with warehouse staff to ensure that inventory such as packing materials and moving equipment is available and ready for use.
    2. Work with management to update them on operational issues and participate in strategy sessions for improving service delivery.

Experience:

  1. Logistics and Transportation Experience:
    1. Any previous role involving scheduling, routing, or managing transportation logistics.
    2. Experience in logistics planning, particularly in a role that involved optimizing routes and managing delivery schedules.
  2. Dispatch Experience:
    1. Prior experience in a dispatch role, regardless of industry, can be extremely relevant. This includes managing real-time logistics, coordinating teams, and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
    2. Experience with dispatch software or systems, and a strong ability to adapt to new technologies used for scheduling and communication.
  3. Management or Supervisory Roles:
    1. Experience in managing or supervising teams, particularly in contexts that required logistical coordination or operational oversight.
    2. Roles that involved resource allocation, staff scheduling, and performance management.
  4. Administrative Experience:
    1. Skills in office administration, including record keeping, data entry, and managing files.
    2. Experience with administrative duties in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating attention to detail and organizational skills.
  5. Problem-Solving Roles:
    1. Roles that required critical thinking and problem-solving under pressure, such as roles in emergency services dispatch or in operational troubleshooting.
    2. Experience in environments where quick decision-making was crucial to the success of the operations.
  6. Experience in the Moving Industry:
    1. Direct experience in the moving or freight industry, which could provide valuable insights into the specific challenges and needs of a moving company's dispatcher.
  7. Safety and Compliance:
    1. Experience in roles that required adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
    2. Understanding of workplace safety, transportation laws, or any regulatory compliance relevant to the moving and transportation industry

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Greater Education
  • Must be able to pass a background check and be subject to a random drug screening program
  • Solomon & Sons Relocation will supply field and office training to ensure all representatives are well-trained and capable of providing outstanding performance in their daily tasks.

Desired Skills

  • OHSA Operate Forklift
  • Strong background in Warehouse management
  • CDL Class A License
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
  • Must be computer-efficient

Qualifications

  • Fluent in English & Spanish REQUIRED
  • OHSA Certified / CDL Class A License
  • Must be able to Operate Forklift Daily 3 Mass High
  • Must be aware of Safety Protocols
  • Working Hours 5 - 6 Days a week as needed. Must be willing to work 40 - 80 Hours weekly
